Description: Currently residing in Berlin, Lydia Tár is a well-known conductor who has collaborated with many of the world’s top orchestras. She is a teacher at Juilliard in New York City and is constantly on the move. While there, she is not afraid to mock aspiring artists and tear down their ideas that identity should have any bearing on the study of or veneration of their work. She carefully orchestrated life starts to spiral out of control as she gets ready for a big performance, with allegations of misconduct coming forward from former students and her attention completely diverted by Olga Metkina, a promising young cellist. With the direction and screenplay for this fictional character Lydia Tar, Todd Field has elevated this exceptional character study. Although she isn’t based on a real person, it almost feels that way. Film also deals with power struggles and being an artist.
