Description: Ezra tells the story of a divorced couple trying to co-parent their 10-year-old autistic son. Max is a stand-up comedian and former comedian who uses open mic local comedy gigs in an attempt to land his next big break. Ex-wife Jenna has another man in her life and is much more involved in Ezra’s daily needs than Max. This familial dynamic sets the tone for a play that is personal to screenwriter Tony Spiridakis, as it features moments of discovering that the son of an autistic boy father Spiridakis is Goldwyn’s godchild and that friendship between the two men between helps the facilitator understand individual relationships to the story. Generally especially for the first 30 minutes or so the film feels intimate and personal. Other times like when Max brings Ezra into those comedy clubs where he performs we get two extremes. We see Max from the crowd or the camera sits almost directly over his left shoulder suggesting an inner turmoil with Max struggling to join.
