Hillbilly Elegy

Description: J.D. tells the tale from his perspective. A few sequences depict his early years, when he and his mother Bev and grandmother Mamaw go to Ohio in an effort to improve their son’s job prospects. Bev drinks excessively, brings in unstable lovers, and occasionally mistreats her children. Mamaw is a strong woman who makes an effort to guide J.D. on the proper path. Later sequences featuring J.D., a recent law school graduate looking to get a position at a reputable firm, are cut in between these early scenes. The awful news that Bev overdosed and is hospitalised is delivered to J.D. by his sister Lindsay shortly before he is due to attend crucial interviews that could decide his future.
