The powerhouse duo between Woo’s 1989 action masterpiece and his masterpiece “Hard Boiled” changed the way I looked at the genre as a teenager and inspired literally hundreds of imitators. For anyone my age who remembers watching “The Killer” (probably on VHS) decades ago, the idea of a full-length remake seems like a cinematic experience. Still, Hollywood revolved around such a role for several decades, with Richard Gere and Nicolas Cage associated with it in the 90s.
