Description: Mufasa: The Lion King is a powerful story trapped in the hell of a franchise. The story is epic, emotional and a clever inversion of the original story. Most of what makes the story so powerful is quickly lost at every turn. This film is ultimately about brotherly love. What defines a brother? Blood, or something more? It would be great if Mufasa could focus on this issue. Mufasa’s characterization is good for the most part. He is humble, wise, and kind. Taka-san is also very thoughtful. He loves his adopted brother, but his borderline violent father, Obasi, has instilled in him the paranoia and shame that Taka tries to overcome through the film.
