Description: Joy Ride centers on Audrey Sullivan, who is traveling to Beijing for business with her eccentric and awkward cousin Deadeye. They encounter Audrey’s college best friend turned Chinese TV sensation Kat. There is comedy on the road. Even though Park’s Audrey receives the majority of the character development, the four girls are all interesting, well-developed characters. A part of me wishes the others had received more love as well, but I find the examination of her identity as a Chinese girl who was adopted by white American parents and feels split between worlds to be an intriguing one.
