Storyline Mountainhead is a smart film that takes a relatively simple premise and turns it into an insightful character study. The film is set at a remote mountain retreat, where four tech billionaires escape to excess in a world that faces an unknown and possibly catastrophic crisis. Instead of high seas, they find ego clashes, existential angst, and the gradual unraveling of their carefully constructed identities. Mountainhead is ultimately about what happens to powerful men when they are stripped of relevance. Director Jesse Armstrong uses the same writing talent and psychological insight that made his series create a cultural touchstone here present funny, wholly flawed, and deeply real characters. Steve Carell steals the show as Randall. Jason Schwartzman represents the angry millionaire, “Soups”. It providing a funny edge, while Cory Michael Smith and Ramy Youssef add drama and intelligence. Their interplay is rich, tense, and filled with laughter. Mountainhead is visually coherent and impeccably paced at Afdah. The film is a mirror that reinterpret modern society, casts doubt on the myth of the visionary tech leader, and, most importantly, asks, in a world that revolves around influence, what will happen when no one is taking notice anymore?
