Description: “Mr. Crockett” is Halloween entertainment that uses the world of 1980s and 1990s children’s television to inspire a special brand of horror for the spooky season. Co-writer and director Brandon Espy has the idea to make the material sinister, and he tries to turn something as innocent as a VHS diversion into something malevolent with a detailed backstory. “Mr. Crockett” has some highlights, including some puppetry, animation, and bloodshed, and Elvis Nolasco gives a rousing performance as the eponymous character, giving this film something to get lost in. The rest of the film is not as energetic as Espy, struggling with pacing and plot issues that run out of steam about halfway through the film.
