Novocaine 2025 opens by introducing Nathan Caine, the least plausible action hero in the universe. Unflappably nice, Nate has a rigorous morning routine that includes making breakfast smoothies and preparing lunch before leaving for his job as an assistant manager at a bank. His brave but guarded life is a result of having CIPA as a child, a serious illness that shortens life expectancy because it causes the inability to sense temperature or even pain. Let’s put it this way: Nate lives in a kind of safety bubble, and his crush on Sherry, a new employee, is the most exciting thing in his life.
