Description: The Dracula that Nicolas Cage plays in “Renfield” is deliriously over the top. Cage’s portrayal of the Prince of Darkness is laced with charm, shocking outbursts, and unexpected intonation. 35 years after “Vampire’s Kiss,” he is now totally immersed in the insatiable need of this mythical creature, so it is a natural evolution. Even while “Renfield” as a whole isn’t really enjoyable, Cage’s performance is. Also deserving of attention are the masks and the genuinely gruesome and convincing makeup, particularly Dracula’s face which is vanishing.
