Description: Writer-director Guy Maddin is a brilliant weirdo. He has never shied away from mixing taboo topics with comedy. But his latest film, Rumours 2024 Afdah, is perhaps his most inclusive yet. Maddin’s apocalyptic satire is effortlessly funny and deceptively thought-provoking. It often reminds me of Armando Iannucci’s equally brilliant film The Death of Stalin. Except Maddin’s film is not set in the Soviet Union, where a power vacuum has brought clumsy, shady politicians to power, but at a G7 summit where world leaders explicitly declare an unnamed crisis that now affects the planet.
