Description: The historical biographical drama Rustin tells the story of Black socialist activist Bayard Rustin, who used nonviolent protest and demonstration to push for economic equality, desegregation, and social change. The film, which was co-written, directed, and starred by gay Black men, centres on how Rustin, who had been excluded from the civil rights movement due to his homosexuality. Organised and carried out the 1963 Summer March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom. There are a few scenes in which Black or integrated groups are pushed, yelled at, or attacked by police, though there isn’t as much racist violence as in many other civil rights film.
