Description: It begins in a vintage bookstore in Manhattan. Tom, the owner, is quiet and works the counter while reading Edgar Allan Poe. Sandra, an attractive customer in her twenties, comes in and asks for anything by Zora Neale Hurston. He invites her to supper after she explains that she is enrolled in a Ph.D. program in Black feminist studies. They quickly start dating. Tom offers to loan her the money he will take from his father’s hedge firm after she gets a call from her brother telling her that he is in debt to some terrible guys. Sharper is a stylish, neo-noir satire on grifters and scammers with an amazing ensemble that is twisting and entertaining. Yet, just as pandemonium starts to take over, Sharper forgoes it in favor of a tidy conclusion that lacks some tension.
