The Alto Knights 2025: A much older Frank Costello, who survived an assassin’s bullet, avoided most legal issues, and retired to a quiet suburban life, narrates the story from the beginning, giving a Wikipedia-style overview of the major events from his Italian birth to his family’s migration to the United States and his friendship with Vito Genovese, whose nearly identical background bonded the two and led them into trouble during their adolescence. With the help of a slideshow of black and white photographs, front-page news articles, and sporadic cutaways to scenes of violence during the Prohibition era, Frank presents Vito as a hothead and himself as the more composed, more diplomatic leader. We get a brief overview of organized crime, especially in New York City, and the roles played by Costello and Genovese through Frank’s memories.
