Description: The Piano depicts the Charles family in 1936 Depression-era Pittsburgh and their struggle over what to do with a priceless piano heirloom, inherited from an enslaved ancestor. It is also a Denzel Washington-produced film based on a play by legendary playwright August Wilson. The film is directed by Malcolm Washington and co-written with Mudbound Oscar-nominated Virgil Williams, who co-wrote the screenplay with Dee Rees. John David Washington, another of Denzel’s sons, plays Willie Charles, a young boy who comes to town and enters the lives of his sister Berniece and uncle Doaker.
