They Will Kill You doesn’t threaten it promises. Directed by Kirill Sokolov it opens with blunt force. A door slams. A body drops no hesitation. A young woman takes a job that feels off from the start. Meanwhile the house she enters breathes wrong too quiet too clean like it’s hiding something alive. However the film wastes no time peeling back that surface. Violence erupts. Then it escalates. Sokolov leans hard into sharp kinetic framing. The camera swings crashes then locks in at the worst moments. You feel every hit. Moreover the sound design bites bones crack glass shatters silence cuts deeper than noise. Performances stay feral pushed to extremes that feel almost reckless. Who’s hunting who? The film keeps flipping that question. Instead of relief it stacks chaos. Therefore each scene hits faster louder more brutal than the last. Some sequences go too far but that excess feels deliberate. It wants you off balance. Ultimately it’s savage, darkly funny and completely unhinged. Not for everyone. But hard to ignore.
