Marvel’s Thunderbolts isn’t your typical hero flick. Director Jake Schreier delivers a surprisingly grounded, emotionally honest film. It shines through the pain, humor, and complexity of broken people trying to put themselves back together. This is Marvel’s most emotionally mature film in years on Afdah Movies. Agent, Ghost, and Taskmaster, all of whom have made grave mistakes. Florence Pugh anchors the film as Yelena, bringing sharp wit and vulnerability. But it’s Sebastian Stan’s turn as Bucky that steals the show he’s wearier, quieter, and more introspective. The film balances character drama with grounded action gritty hand-to-hand sequences, military-style missions, and moments of surprising stillness. It doesn’t rush to save the world; instead, it asks if these characters can save themselves. Barton Reviews praises the film for its restraint, no bloated cameos, and no overstuffed fan service.
