Description: The incredibly boring, paint-by-numbers underdog sports biopic The Boys In The Boat tells the story of a working-class American rowing eight that placed first in the 1936 Olympics. All we know about them is that they are driven and impoverished. Since the hero stuffs cardboard inside his shoe in the opening scene, we can infer that they are impoverished. Their coach is portrayed throughout the movie as being reticent and mysterious so we don’t get to know them very well. We certainly don’t know what he did to make them that way or why they are so good. Furthermore we are unaware of the true stakes.
